A prototype of what could possibly be Toyota’s hotter GRMN Yaris has been caught on tape in Germany.
Days after the first images appeared, a video has now emerged of what’s suspected to be the brand new (much more) hardcore 2021 Toyota GRMN Yaris.
Sporting an aero bundle with a big rear wing – paying homage to its Yaris World Rally Automotive cousin – in addition to vented entrance guards and extra aggressive entrance spoiler, the prototype was seen testing alongside the recently-unveiled Toyota GR Yaris.
Seeing the GRMN testing at Germany’s well-known Nurburgring is smart, as GRMN is actually quick for ‘Gazoo Racing Meister of Nurburgring’.
On the unveiling of the prototype Toyota GR Yaris in December 2019, Chief engineer of Gazoo Racing, Naohiko Saito, said he was open to the concept of a GRMN Yaris.
However this is not the primary GRMN we have seen, with the corporate rolling out a previous-generation GRMN Yaris with a 1.8-litre Corolla engine in mid-2019 – maybe testing the market’s urge for food.
With the upcoming 2021 Toyota GR Yaris producing 200kW/370Nm from its 1.6-litre turbo three-cylinder engine – probably the most highly effective three-cylinder engine ever provided in a manufacturing automobile – it is possible there can be an emphasis on weight, slightly than energy, if the GRMN does come to fruition.
